Material Culture and Everyday Life in Residences of Ottavio II Piccolomini
SOUČEK, Martin
The work presented here uses modern theoretical principles, which have been applied in recent years in the research of material culture and residential networks of aristocratic estates. Heuristically, it is based on a set of previously unused sources, which are deposited mainly in the State Regional Archive Zámrsk, Piccolomini Family Archive, Náchod, 1431-1881. The work is based on the analysis of the preserved castle inventory from 1732, the palace inventory from 1739, financial documents from the 1830s and reports of the Piccolominis´ agent Adalbert Anthony Gayer. The author is interested not only in the material equipment of the residences of Ottavio II. Piccolomini (1698-1757) in Náchod, Ratibořice and Prague, but he also asks questions about the daily running of the residences. He also focuses on the people who occupied these buildings.
